Working Through Writer’s Block

I’ve been really inspired to share about how I create my content for my emails, blogs and social media pages. It’s been a lot of trial and error for me – especially as I have transitioned into a whole new business, new brand, new content, new way of teaching and new way of doing business in general.  I hope you find what I’ve learned helpful.

For me, creating content is so important because it says a lot about who you are as a person and business. AND it can connect deeply with your followers and audience. Deep connection leads to trust, and trust leads to sales! Your content is also important because it attracts a certain kind of person to your business.

So, you’ve got the words in your mind.  You know what you’d like to say, but, for whatever reason, you struggle to get words onto to paper in a way that really connects to your audience.

Plus, there is that overlying pressure to “get your message out there” and “don’t be afraid to share and be vulnerable” because “everyone’s doing it!” and you feel like a total failure because you just can’t. Or when you do, it doesn’t feel authentic or right or doesn’t get the engagement you desire.

You are not alone. Everyone has felt that way!

If you have ever gotten a message or comment that says “Yes! That is exactly me!” or “Thank you. That really resonated.” or “You are so in my head!”… then you know you are doing good things with your copy ????????

BUT, you can also write something you think is gonna be so good, and then crickets, nada, nothing. It’s all about trial + error and experimenting with what works and how you and your audience are shifting.

HERE ARE A FEW REASONS YOU MAY BE STRUGGLING WITH WRITER’S BLOCK:

You have a deep-seeded belief that you aren’t good enough; therefore, your content, what you write, is not good enough either.

That belief is literally holding you back. Because you believe that, you will always find evidence to prove that right. So when you go to write and it’s not authentic or aligned and you post anyways, you get crickets, proving to yourself that your content sucks and is not valuable. (Of course that is not the truth!) Do you see how you create your own reality?? Change your story about your beliefs and you’ll start to shift the evidence you seek.

You do not follow a ritual before you post.

Because you’re busy and because you’ve been taught to just fit it in and get something up on social, you are always winging it. In my experience, that doesn’t work. Your content has energy, and the reader feels that energy. If you were rushed in writing it, they will feel that on the other end. My advice is to take more time before you write anything – give yourself space to write. I personally write daily, immediately following my yoga practice in the morning. It’s a ritual of mine. I just allow myself the space to do it because it’s important to me to let my authentic truth come out in my writing. But it’s a practice, so you’ve got to be willing to put a little effort in to create the habit. Part of my writing ritual is to ask myself 3 questions:

  1. What do I want her to feel?
  2. What do I want her to know?
  3. What do I want her to do?

Create a writing ritual that feels light and true to you, and you’ll start to see a massive shifts in your copy.

You do not have a posting formula.

Do you have an actual formula for your emails, blogs or social media posts that you follow? I’ll be honest – I do, but I don’t always follow it, maybe because I am more habitual about my writing that it just comes out when I write or maybe because I like more freedom when I write. But for you, it could quite possibly be that you need a formula or something step-by-step that teaches you how to craft your copy.  I recommend starting with something like this: Connect + Teach + Engage + Call to Action. That formula can be used in any copy, blogs, social media posts, or emails.

You aren’t clear yet on who you serve and how you serve them.

If you don’t have a clear picture of who you serve, how can you write copy that she can relate to?? I tell my students all the time: get in her head. What is she thinking right now? What can you offer her that is a slam dunk or a HELL YES? And when I am referring to her, I mean your perfect ideal client, the women you want to serve. If you aren’t getting in her head or have no idea what’s going on in her head, you need to get more clear on who you are serving – on a deep level!

If you are interested in going deeper with your content creation and learning my full system, I’ve created a Content Creation Workbook that I sell for just $1. It will walk you through all 4 of these writer’s blocks, allowing you space to journal and free yourself from the paralysis you may be feeling about your FB, Instagram, email marketing, or even your blog posts.

My work is guided by the energies of the chakras, the energies of the divine feminine principles and by the energies of the cosmos. The macro, the micro and everything in between.

To me, it is all interconnected, all coming from Source. You will see in my work that I am very inspired by color gradients to create an ombre effect.
